Staff Reliability Engineer - Fixed Equipment

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for guiding efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, and facilities for fixed equipment. This role can be further subdivided into two distinct areas: defect elimination and risk management. Responsible for sustaining and continuously improving reliability for fixed equipment.

 

Defect Elimination

One of the primary responsibilities of the Reliability Engineer is to improve equipment availability and reduce asset costs through defect elimination. These improvements are prioritized to focus efforts on the most critical opportunities. The Reliability Engineer (in full partnership with other Departments (e.g., Operations, EHS) develops a plan to reduce cost through root cause analysis and other acceptable methods.

 

Risk Management

The Reliability Engineer is an integral part of the asset management operation and should take a risk based approach to all RAMS activities. This includes communication of risk-based concerns to decisionmakers, analyzing defects and associated improvement options with risk management in mind, and reviewing projects and recommendations from other groups with a mindset towards reliability operation.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Engineering Practices during equipment improvement design / project design reviews. This includes in the development of design, installation and commissioning specifications.
  • Seek guidance from Reliability Manager, or Engineering SME on issues needing support.
  • Supporting responsibility to communicate reliability issues with Operations.
  • Lead RAM top 30 fixed equipment. assigned by Reliability Superintendent; works with all organizations on RCFA process, improvement proposals.
  • Supports the Maintenance Manager in the development of criteria for and evaluation of maintenance equipment, material, and service suppliers for the site.
  • Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria for new and repaired equipment.
  • Participates in factory and site acceptance testing that will confirm adherence to EP’s
  • Support pre-startup reviews through active participation and focus on installations per EP’s.
  • Active participant in Maintenance Strategy process (participate in FMEA sessions, preventative maintenance task development, one-time task design development)
  • Supports reliability-related site assessments and overall assessment schedule (Mechanical Integrity, Equipment Strategies, RAMS).
  • Site incident investigator or team member.
  • Provides equipment technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and Process Technical personnel.
  • Site contact for 3rd party fixed equipment engineering support.
  • Support process safety, safety, and environmental compliance by participating in process hazard analysis, incident investigations, procedure development, management of change, alarm management, pressure protection management, and providing technical assistance for work scope development, and assessment of operating impacts on equipment.
  • Design improvements for equipment/systems to improve overall reliability, availability, and predictability of production, improve process safety and environmental performance including complex designs.
  • Perform equipment reliability analysis and recommend improvements based on Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) findings.
  • Recommend equipment reliability improvements through RAMS processes.
  • Works with Maintenance and Operations and other Dept’s as required to initiate and develop Maintenance & Reliability work processes.
  • Works with all relevant departments to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations adhering to RAMS life cycle asset management processes.
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations.
  • Stays abreast of latest industry best practices, technology, and equipment design through participation in professional organizations and associations.
  • Conduct RCFA on failed equipment / components and improve life expectancy using RCFA findings.
  • Supports maintenance related activities in planning upcoming shutdowns, transitions, and equipment requirements.
  • Support turnaround and unit shutdown planning and execution through participation in scope development, providing justification for work items, and providing technical support during shutdown/startup and outage timeframe.
  • Develops and delivers site training to educate, inform and guide refinery maintenance staff on the application of EP’s.  
  • Serves as site Technical Committee Member for Engineering Practices (EP’s)
  • Serves at site SME for interpretation of EP’s related to fixed equipment.

 

Required Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

At least 5 years of related experience. Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline and related field experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience

8 or more years experience with Reliability Engineering or related experience in a petro-chemical facility.

Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline and related field experience.

Experience with API Engineering Standards (API, ASME, NACE).  

Turnaround scope development experience.

Experience with Inspection support.
