Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Position Overview

The Reliability Instrumentation Engineer applies best practices based on industry standards and formal Engineering education and experience.   Evaluates and applies proper preventative reliability systems to reduces failure, improve uptime, and eliminate safety risk.  Utilizes respective tools to monitor instrument performance and implement improvements to increase reliability.  Leverages reliability principles such as Root Cause Failure Analysis, MTBF, Life Cycle Analysis, and other techniques.  Will conduct field audits and survey to access problem areas will lead or serve on RCA Investigation Teams.   Manages multiyear Reliability plan for Instrumentation. Leads the instrumentation Reliability Team. Coordinates budget planning for Instrumentation Reliability budget. Leads instrumentation predictive maintenance programs exploring new technologies where applicable.  Lead and direct specialty contractors.  Act as a liaison with engineers, operations, and others to discuss existing or potential reliability improvements. Makes recommendations with long term reliability improvements which may include implementation of business process for driving capital projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Study performance and reliability of existing equipment and establish programs and solutions for decreasing equipment downtime.

•             Troubleshoot instrumentation and determine root cause and take corrective action to resolve system failures

•             Develops, selects, and tests instrumentation and their components to evaluate/select best in class and technology instrument systems.

•             Oversee the instrumentation department to generate instrument list, update P & ID’s, and create loop diagrams, and instrumentation specifications.

•             Plan, design, and write specifications for process instrumentation.

•             Create estimates and cost studies for potential projects.

•             Conduct reviews to ensure compliance with recognized industry codes and standards.

•             Researches materials and concepts to advise and support technical issues influencing instrument design concept development.

•             Inspects field work to ensure conformance with plans and specifications; maintains proper and safe working environment.

•             Identifies and recommends changes in existing instrumentation and suggests changes in plans to meet operational or department requirements and regulations.

•             Assist project engineering in developing project scopes

•             Support capital projects by collaborating with other departments and specifying, accepting and participating in prestart up safety reviews on installed equipment.

•             Eliminate/reduce equipment defects and improve yields.

•             Ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts.

•             Organization skills and ability to prioritize work, develop appropriate timelines and work to meet target completion timelines.

•             Work with Business teams to provide solutions and recommendations based on best engineering practices and technology advancements

•             Develop instrumentation reliability metrics to track and report to plant leadership.

•             Other duties as assigned

Minimum Required Education:

  • Electrical or Instrumentation Engineer/ Engineering Technology from an Accredited University


Minimum Required Experience

  • 10 years of experience on similar roles.


Preferred Education/ Experience:

  • MSC in instrumentation
  • 15 years of experience in similar roles
  • PE, Maintenance and Reliability Professional, PMP or ISA
