Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

The Corrosion Engineer reports to the Corrosion Control and Prevention Manager. This position will be charged with responsibilities for the systematic development, ongoing evaluation, gap analysis and improvement process of the corrosion management systems for pipelines and facilities located across all DKL asset areas, as well as the planning and execution of major corrosion control related capital/expense projects. Responsibilities will also include training and mentoring interaction with operations corrosion technicians, organizing and leading corrosion related priorities and creating/reviewing/improving of corrosion standards and procedures. Responsibilities may include:

  • Provide technical expertise and assist in problem-solving to the field-based corrosion supervisors and corrosion technicians for complex external corrosion control issues such as stray current, remedial actions, AC mitigation, atmospheric and underground coatings, electrical isolation, above-ground surveys such as close-interval survey, DCVG/ACVG, design for specialized or complex cathodic protection systems for pipelines, facilities, terminals, and tanks.
  • Be the subject matter expert for internal corrosion control and lead initiatives such as corrosion coupon design, installation and analysis, liquid/solid sample analysis results interpretation, maintenance/cleaning pigging selection and frequency, internal corrosion monitoring programs, and develop acceptance criteria MOC process for new crude and petroleum products streams.
  • Review and create scopes, specifications, and mitigation plans that support responses to projects such as close-interval surveys and other field surveys including remedial actions, stray current testing and mitigation, data interpretation and engineering analysis, cathodic protection design, internal corrosion mitigation system design and monitoring including coupons and solid/liquid/gas sampling analyses.
  • Support programs and initiatives for monitoring, assessment and mitigation of corrosion mechanisms such as SCC, high-temperature corrosion, microbiological influenced corrosion, coating disbondment, CP shielding, and accelerated external corrosion.
  • Function as the technical lead in planning, materials selection, corrosion, fabrication, and field execution support for projects relating to corrosion protection, biocide and chemical inhibition, and cathodic protection for pipelines, facilities, terminals, tanks, and support structures.
  • Direct and support the development of company corrosion control standards for regulated and non-regulated assets, and develop, maintain and conduct training for internal corrosion policies and procedures including O&M manual, design, construction, and integrity/IMP, as well aiding in the development of facility integrity, CIS/DCVG, internal/external tank and piping coating inspections/specifications, and risk based inspection (RBI) standards.
  • Support Field Operations in use of corrosion control contractors as a liaison with contractors/materials suppliers.
  • Support DOT, state, and corporate pre-audits and audits and interface with regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor industry & regulations for best practices, attend conferences, advise on codes & industry standards, and share learnings, while focused on anticipating internal or external business challenges and/or regulatory/industry issues
  • Travel up to 20% to various DKL sites.

 

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Metallurgy, Corrosion, Mechanical, or similar preferred)
  • 5 years of in-depth internal corrosion control experience and working knowledge of field operations
  • Working knowledge of 49 CFR Part 195 and 192, and well as pertinent NACE, API, and ASME standards

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher-level related industry certifications such as NACE Specialist certification strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, networking and teamwork skills for data gathering, building consensus in teams for problem solving, developing a client base and working well with people in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team environment at all levels of the organization, as well as external resources
  • Should have proven project management skills: must be able to prioritize multiple projects for different internal customers simultaneously, exceptional planning and scheduling abilities, and good communications skills
  • Individual must be a self-starter and be able to work without direct supervision
  • Advanced computer skills and familiar with technology supporting corrosion programs such as spreadsheets, databases (PCS/CPDM), API risk/RBI software, fitness-for-service, field CP systems, and GIS data integration
  • Understanding of integrity assessments such as in-line inspection technologies, hydrostatic testing, and ECDA
