Job Summary


The Field Pipeline Engineer will provide engineering design for various field projects and project support as necessary. Provide direction for safety, project management, design, construction, regulatory, and maintenance activities for terminals, gathering stations, tank farms, pipelines, construction, measurement, pipeline repair and maintenance, and other construction and operational activities.


Description & Responsibilities

  • Enforce and maintain company safety policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provide leadership for day-to-day engineering, construction, and operations including developing project scope and design, establishing equipment specifications, routing, facility layouts, cost estimates, execution plans, commissioning plans, work plans, management of change (MOC), lockout-tagout, and agency notifications.
  • Practice and enforce industry, agency, and corporate engineering standards and specifications.
  • Prepare and supervise as needed the preparation of drawings to provide to corporate design and drafting resources.
  • Solicit and evaluate construction bids and contracts; estimate costs and generate AFEs; Assist Project Managers and local Operations Management in cost control, scope and execution schedule relative to budget.
  • Provide technical expertise to the other field staff and managers.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Commercial, and Procurement departments to optimize and expand assets in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Red-line and submit facility mechanical and electrical drawings to design & drafting resources.
  • Provide support for system planning including pipeline hydraulics, operations and maintenance.
  • Provide information and feedback on engineering, construction, and operating plans, and related vendor agreements.
  • Develop, promote and maintain positive working relationships with consultants, vendors, suppliers, contractors, and all departments within the company.
  • Complete capital and project reporting and analysis requests.
  • Provide analytics and other information and feedback to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements – Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university
  • 2-5 years of proven engineering and field technical experience with a liquids pipeline operator.
  • Familiarity with crude oil gathering pipelines, regulated transmission pipelines, custody transfer measurement, pump stations, API 653 storage tanks, and pipeline operations are strongly preferred
  • Liquids Midstream processing and equipment knowledge required
  • Knowledge of DOT Part 195, Texas Railroad Commission pipeline regulations
  • Knowledge of crude oil gathering pipeline systems, refined products pipeline and terminal facilities, federally regulated liquid transmission pipelines, and federally regulated hazardous liquids pipeline control rooms
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office Suites required, SAP a plus) and knowledge including reporting software applications
  • Proficient in reading and understanding Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical single-lines, and process flow diagrams.
  • Excellent communicating skills, both verbal and written, as well as a professional and courteous attitude.
  • Ability to travel to miscellaneous Company facilities within and outside assigned district with travel exceeding 50 percent during critical project milestones and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct management and oversight
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen subject matter knowledge base and proficiencies, and share knowledge with others.
  • Able to carry a company cell phone and be available 24/7 for emergency assistance, which may involve unplanned dispatch on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position requires a motivated and organized self-starter, who is able to manage his or her time efficiently and wisely. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines is a must. This position requires a self-learner that demonstrates clear accountability, sound judgement and can adapt easily whether working independently or with a team. Candidate must possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must maintain an active driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to participate in and complete all company-required emergency responder training.
