Sr Manager, Transportation


Job Summary:

Analyzes transportation and distribution systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and economical delivery of the organization's products. Reviews proposals and makes recommendations for modifications in rates and transportation regulations. Evaluates freight classifications, tariff rates and operating efficiency to ensure the proper delivery of products. Plans and coordinates fleet operations, including acquisition, scheduling, maintenance service and repair, and disposal of trucks, and hires common carriers (third-party transportation companies) as appropriate.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, manage, and direct the day-to-day activity and functions of gathering, logistically managing, and serving customers’ freight.
  • Use sound business disciplines to generate maximum revenue and profits while operating in an efficient manner, meet the safety and performance standards and goals set forth by the company, current customers, and regulating authorities.
  • Provide leadership, training, and guidance for fuel logistics coordinators.
  • Initiate contact and build relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Ensure that all customer needs are met with respect to on time performance, error-free service, and reporting.
  • Direct the effort of all Logistics Coordinators (LC’s), ensuring all LC accountabilities and responsibilities to customers are met.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of: order entry, customer information management and reporting, customer product inventory management; ensure day-to-day business requirements are met, securing freight to fully maximize available capacity, honoring all customer commitments.
  • Direct, coach, educate LC’s on customer commitments and service expectations.


Required Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Typical Minimum Requirements: At least 8 years of related experience. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Master's or MBA degree typically preferred.
