Senior Process Design Engineer

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Position Overview:

Responsible for directing and implementing capital projects for the refinery.  The individual will oversee continuous improvement of the refinery processes through the Capital Project recommendations, collaborate with Operations and/or Technical Services on design and specification of projects, evaluate needs and make recommendations on project requests.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient with design and refining practices to aid in resolving and enhancing the refining processes for Operations. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting the required time lines and maintaining high quality output
  • Evaluation of job orders and designs to ensure they meet the goals of the Capital project
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving designs and packaging specifications for projects
  • Evaluates vendor bids, equipment bid requirements and procurement recommendations for the projects
  • Responsible for evaluating project costs and managing the cost control process
  • Ability to identify process improvements and resolve technical problems
  • Must be able to interact with Operations to ensure projects meet the needs of the refinery
  • Must be able to evaluate process technologies and make recommendations to Operations for continuous improvement
  • Follows all gates processes for Capital Project approval
  • Lead and/or participate in facility process improvement studies
  • Evaluate changes in refinery and individual units and perform economic evaluations for options
  • Improve process design with focus on safety (PHA, LOPA), reliability, and economics.
  • Prepare process design basis and specifications for revamps and new projects
  • Develop new process simulations or utilize/update existing simulations for evaluation of Unit performance and design changes.
  • Serve as representative for projects in Engineering Contractors offices
  • Develop procedures and support commissioning of new facilities.
  • Provide support for unit turnarounds for capital project installations and commissioning.

Minimum Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Minimum Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience implementing and execution of Capital projects

Desirable/ Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work Space:

  • Must be able to work in both an office and refinery environment.  Able to work using a computer including typing, using other communication devices including cell and desk telephones.  Must be able to make presentations to groups and explain project development.

Hours of Work/ Travel:

  • Must be able to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays during turnarounds or emergency shutdowns, able to work nights as required, and travel by common carrier.

Physical Activity:

  • Must be able to wear fire retardant clothing and other related PPE. Must be able to go   in the field which will include exposure to rotating equipment, adverse weather conditions, dust, chemicals, noise and odors.
