Position Summary:
Describe overall job purpose (reason it exists). Analyzes environmental conditions and recommends changes to prevent or eliminate compliance deviations. Ensures compliance with regulatory agency policies, including government legislation pertaining to the preservation of the environment. Develops, designs and may operate gauging equipment to determine the amounts of toxic pollutants present in air, land, and water to ensure compliance with regulatory agency policies. The position requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in the discipline.
Major Accountabilities:

- Ensures compliance with air quality regulations, water quality regulations, waste management regulations, and material and release inventory regulations established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. A function of the position is the ability to interact with these and other regulatory agencies as required.
- Responsible for overseeing/collecting samples of various materials in the Refinery as dictated by the various environmental programs.
- Completes reports for federal and state regulatory agencies timely and maintains the appropriate documentation.
- Serves 24-hour call rotation for Duty Contact for Spill/Upset/Emission Event/Reporting requirements.
- Provides complete and timely submittals of all required agency reports within area of responsibility (e. g., GHG Reports, Emission Inventories, NSPS Reports, MACT Reports, LDEQ Regulatory Reports, etc.)
- Makes agency notifications or provides emergency response assistance, such as spill clean-up direction, fence-line monitoring, .
- Assists in adapting procedures, processes, and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position.
- Ensures environmental inspections required by environmental regulations and programs assigned are properly satisfied, recorded, and reported to federal, state, or other government authorities, as applicable.
- Generates reports/records to support demonstration of compliance with Environmental regulations.
- Communicates effectively with plant operations and maintenance personnel to provide guidance and acquire information necessary to meet regulatory obligations.
- Reads and interprets documents such as environmental regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s).
- Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
- Assists in orientation and training of employees and contractors in environmental regulations, permits, plans, and guidelines.
- Assists with regulatory agency inspections and interacts with the agencies as required.
- Assists with MOCs and incident investigations as required.
- Duties as assigned, including budgeting and management, ensuring maintenance of departmental equipment and facilities, recordkeeping, reporting, and similar assigned duties.
- May lead projects or assist as required.
Education Requirement:
- List any certifications, licenses, etc. required for the position.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related science degree is required.
Experience Requirement:
- A minimum of two years of environmental engineering experience is required.
