Safety Manager

Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.


This position provides leadership and expertise to drive behaviors, processes, and management systems that achieve and sustain best-in-class results and a positive safety culture.   This role is responsible for ensuring policies, plans, procedures, and practices align with Company initiatives while providing support of DKL and DPG employees, contractors, assets, and activities to influence positive change throughout the organization as part of the commitment to “Goal Zero”.



  • Lead the development and implementation of corporate occupational safety programs that reduce risks and conform with applicable legal requirements and Company expectations.
  • Manage a team of safety professionals in support of capital projects and operating units while effecting safe work behaviors, oversight, and processes.
  • Maintain the Safety Manual and related management and training systems to effect continuous improvement in hazard awareness, safety skills, and risk mitigation.
  • Implement monitoring, tracking, and reporting systems as part of key performance indicators that illuminate lagging and leading indicators and provide opportunities to strengthen the safety culture and recognize safety excellence.
  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships across the Company while growing safety skills and support for a positive safety culture and the “I Own It” principles.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for industrial and occupational safety, emergency preparedness, industrial hygiene using policies, guidance, protocols, procedures, and audits that promote effective risk management
  • Serve as primary contact for all occupational safety matters and lead efforts to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations for occupational safety and industrial hygiene
  • Support emergency response efforts for injuries, spills/releases, incident reporting and review, and related activities
  • Lead investigations related to these incidents, draft investigation reports and coordinate the development of corrective actions based upon investigations
  • Develop and implement long range plans and budgets to ensure safety, process safety, and security compliance and improve the overall performance and cuture.

  • Develop collaborative relationships within DKL and other DKUS businesses unit and Corporate peers in order to leverage best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Set high standards for safety performance and accountability for conformance with company policies and goals that support a positive safety culture.
  • Influence change in business unit leaders and staff as part of a commitment to Goal Zero.
  • Provide opportunities for recognition and reward of teams and individuals demonstrating safety excellence and leadership.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders as an advocate for a positive safety culture.

  • Bachelor degree in a technical or behavioral discipline or occupational safety and health
  • 10 years experience in occupational safety in mid-stream, refining, or process industries.
  • 3 to 5 years experience managing other safety professionals.



  • Master’s degree in a technical or behavioral discipline or occupational safety and health
  • 15 years experience in occupational safety in mid-stream, refining, or process industries.
  • 5 to 7 years experience managing other safety professionals.
  • Nationally-recognized certification in safety management and/or discipline, such as a CSP or CIH



  • Office and field, the latter including mid-stream gathering, right of ways, and terminals
  • Up to 50% travel
  • Ability to respond to serious incidents and lead on-site investigations
  • Climbing tanks, ladders, and platforms
  • Driving company vehicles
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Operate air monitoring and respiratory protection equipment
