Job Summary

The Piping Designer will create a broad range of piping design tasks and suites related to oil and gas transportation and processing facilities for new greenfield assets and major brownfield facility upgrades and expansions associated with the Company’s hazardous liquids midstream pipelines, terminals, facilities, trucking stations, and loading racks.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Enforce and maintain company safety policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, and for the safety of company assets, employees, and the general public
  • Create drawings associated with midstream oil and gas facilities, pump stations, metering stations, LACT units, tank batteries, terminals, pipeline designs, pig launchers and receivers, pipeline main line valve assemblies, pipeline tie-ins, trucking stations and loading racks
  • Create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Piping Drawings, Bill of Materials, Line Lists, Tie-in List, Valve List, Equipment Layout, Plot Plans, Foundation Location Plan, Piping/Civil Detail, Isometric Drawings, As-built Drawings, and 2D/3D Models for pipelines, terminals, facilities, trucking stations and loading racks using AutoCAD and Plant 3D CAD Software in accordance with industry standards
  • Interpret and administer various pipe material and options
  • Prepare and manage schedule for piping design projects
  • Conduct facility/field assessments and gather data required to produce as-built documentation
  • Interface as necessary with in-house engineering, project management, drafting, purchasing, as well as outside consultants, inspection, and operations personnel
  • Check basic layouts, designs and general arrangements of other designers and drafters for accuracy and compliance with code and company standards.
  • Create and document concepts, sketches, models, layouts, submittals, instructions, and complete design packages
  • Manage engineering as-built master drawing records and document control process which will involve the checking in and out of engineering master as-built documents
  • Enforce and coordinate design requirements with internal and external project stakeholders to ensure compliance with company design standards
  • Oversee the distribution of design information for various end users, upon request
  • Participate in internal and external project meetings to develop project requirements, define delivery schedules, review design, and report progress
  • Must be able to coordinate effectively with a wide range of technical, analytical and managerial personnel and operate with minimal direction

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Education/Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in drafting technology or related field and 10 years of industrial piping design/drafting experience
  • 6+ years of hazardous liquids midstream pipeline industry piping design experience is preferred, or 10+ years of refining, petrochemical, gas midstream, or upstream oil & gas piping design experience required
  • Must have experience using AutoCAD and Plant3D CAD software to generate drawings
  • Must be capable of creating designs, check drawings and bill of materials for accuracy with minimum direction before routing for approval
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers and Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives
  • Must have a broad knowledge of ISA and API related industry standards and best practices. Knowledge in NEC, IEEE, IEC, and NFPA industry standards is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office (word, excel), and other computer applications and design software is a plus
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Willing to attend and participate industry-sponsored conferences, seminars, training, and summits
  • Overnight travel to company locations and facilities for meetings, training, special projects, emergency planning, or information gathering will be required
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
  • Must be willing to submit to DOT random drug & alcohol screening
