The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Job Summary:


The Environmental Director is a member of the Corporate HSE Team and will lead Corporate Delek US oversight and implementation of business unit environmental programs.  This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations, effective application of environmental related programs and developing innovative solutions for evolving standards.  This role provides technical expertise and support for implementation and execution of environmental requirements.  Will assist with developing and implementing company policies and programs, commenting on proposed rules and legislation, developing compliance programs for new regulations, and assisting with the overall improvement of company-wide environmental performance.


Description and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible and accountable for developing environmental standards and programs for refining, logistics, renewables and other facilities as appropriate
  • Work cooperatively with operations management and facility environmental staff for the identified business operations to provide guidance and assistance in meeting compliance responsibilities
  • Develop and track appropriate environmental KPIs
  • Inform and advise senior management regarding compliance status and issues, potential risks and liabilities, future impacts from new laws and rules and recommended actions
  • Track, interpret and evaluate proposed and final regulations and agency enforcement priorities to assist in developing compliance strategies and programs/budgets
  • Lead environmental permitting and provide guidance for major expansions and other projects
  • Assist with obtaining, maintaining and ensuring compliance with environmental permits (e.g., air, stormwater, wastewater)
  • Review significant submittals required by regulation or law, governmental entities or legal orders
  • Participate in industry environmental initiatives/programs and with trade associations to identify industry trends and best practices, shape regulatory efforts and enhance industry environmental performance
  • Participate in due diligence for acquisitions/divestitures
  • Develop annual operating and capital budgets for environmental compliance
  • Conduct periodic reviews and participate in compliance audits
  • Participate on incident investigation teams for major/significant incidents
  • Provide additional assistance to the VP of Environmental Health & Safety as requested


  • B.S. in Engineering (preferred) or a B.S. in another technical discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in progressively responsible positions
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the petroleum refining industry
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience requiring overall environmental responsibility for a facility or a business unit
  • Refinery environmental manager or corporate environmental staff experience for a refining company desirable
  • Experience in petroleum logistics (pipelines, terminals, etc.) desirable
  • Specific knowledge and experience with groundwater/soil remediation and waste management required
  • Specific knowledge and experience with petroleum refinery air quality regulations
  • Specialized training in process safety management and mechanical integrity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capability to organize and write plans, procedures and materials to communicate with, and train the organization
  • Experienced with standard MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
