The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Job Summary:

Supports multi-refinery and multi-disciplinary teams in the areas of Crude Distillation and Fractionation from a Process Engineering and Technology perspective.  Leads initiatives across company’s Crude Units that include unit process health monitoring, best practices, and standardization of methods and controls to meet economic, safety, and environmental objectives.

Leads margin improvement opportunities in the areas of Crude Distillation and Fractionation that may include small and large project scope identification and early phase development.  Provides onsite refinery assistance when necessary for unit troubleshooting, turnaround inspection, and startup activities.

Provides consultation to all refineries in the areas of mass transfer (distillation, absorption, and stripping) as well as expertise in physical separation such as vapor-liquid, liquid-liquid, and oil-water separation.  Experience in vessel and tower internals design preferred. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports refineries with technical assistance in identifying process unit performance improvements and troubleshooting.
  • Works closely with refineries’ process engineering groups to develop and maintain in-depth, up-to-date insight into current state. Evaluates refinery unit configurations and develop optimized alternatives.
  • Facilitates identification of Cash Improvement Initiatives (CII) to improve yields through technical evaluation of feasibility, viability and implementation risk using quantitative criteria.
  • Leads process engineering Crude Unit Best Practice Network.
  • Maintains and fosters compliance with Engineering Practices and Standards in the area of fractionation.
  • Reviews vendor tower and separator internals detailed designs.
  • Provides technical support for applications of vendor supplied high performance tower trays/packings, mist eliminators, coalescers and compact separation devices.
  • Reviews chemical vendor’s KPI compliance on Crude Unit, especially around desalting and overhead corrosion monitoring and control.
  • Facilitates improvements to refineries’ linear programming (LP) and kinetic process models. Works with process engineering groups to assist with development of data needed for each refinery’s LP model. Compares real-time plant data to evaluate models’ accuracy.

 

Required Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

  • At least 8 years of related experience. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Master's or MBA degree typically preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years process engineering experience in refining industry. Experience in heavy oils processing, including Delayed Coking and Propane Deasphalting Units a plus.  Master's or MBA degree typically preferred.

 

Organizational Leveling:

  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field. Leads others to solve complex problems. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. May lead functional teams or projects.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Needs to have proficiency in process modeling (Aspentech HYSYS desired) of key equipment (i.e. stream characterization, distillation towers, and heat transfer equipment).  Ability to perform equipment sizing calculations (i.e. tower internals/tray ratings) and review vendor equipment data sheets and drawings.

 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to climb distillation towers and enter confined spaces as required for turnaround and troubleshooting activities with site process and inspection engineers.  Ability to easily perform field walks carrying necessary equipment as task demands (i.e. harness, pressure gauges, etc.)

 

Travel (with US):

  • 25% Travel
  • Willing and able to travel as necessary for troubleshooting and project requirements to include but not be limited to: project installation and start-up activities, turnaround inspection support, refinery customer meetings, company sponsored meetings, training courses, and industry-related seminars.
