Sr Manager, Middle Office

Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, asphalt, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing. We are hiring for the position of Senior Manager, Middle Office & Risk located in our Brentwood, Tennessee corporate office.


The Senior Manager, Middle Office & Risk (SM) will lead people and programs that enable the Commercial and Financial organizations to meet strategic objectives aligned to Delek’s strategy. This role is accountable for delivering complex, market-based analysis and solutions ensuring that business risks are within guidelines while driving profitability and margin goals. The SM is expected to lead, mentor, and guide junior-level staff to develop skills and increase performance while delivering a positive customer experience. The SM will be accountable for assessing performance, developing key KPIs, driving productivity and communicating with poise.


This leader supports the Commercial Leadership team in specific areas of the business that optimize Delek’s asset portfolio. Examples of deliverables include: profit/loss drivers, volumetric positions, market exposure, market price risk assessments, and analysis on potential transaction profitability. The Commercial team manages physical and financial initiatives related to commodities such as: crude oil, gasolines, jet fuel, asphalt, marine fuels, feedstocks, and renewables.


The ideal SM will have deep knowledge and experience managing team and mentoring. The successful candidate must have a can-do attitude and function well in fast-paced environments with competing demands. The SM and Middle Office often interface with external counterparties, regulators, brokers, futures clearing merchants, exchanges, and logistic providers. 


The SM role requires strong communication skills and the ability to break complex issues into components and action plans. Interaction inside and outside Delek requires assertiveness and diplomacy. The SM is expected to act with high-integrity, evolve processes, automate, and maintain financial controls. Internal interactions include Back Office / Accounting, Settlements, Treasury, Commercial Operations, Legal, IT, Internal Audit, and Executive Management.


The position requires high-proficiency in Excel and has experience working with ETRM (Energy & Trading Risk Management) platforms.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Strong leader capable of managing and developing staff
  • Understands commodity markets and proficiency understanding futures, options, counterparty-direct agreements, and inventory optimization
  • Performs what-if analysis and provides analysis on transactions in various market scenarios
  • Evolves processes, automates, and enhances controls to support growing business needs
  • Coaches and guides junior members of the staff to grow talent and improve performance
  • Diplomatically interacts with both internal and external business partners
  • Inspires their team to continually improve.
  • Clearly communicates expectations
  • Engages with a high-performing team and has a passion for excellence
  • Ensures the portfolio is within the risk tolerances as defined by the Board of Directors and outlined in the Commercial Transaction Risk Policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 8+ years of relevant finance, accounting or audit experience in a transaction-intense environment; energy of financial market experience
  • Self-motivated, internally driven, detail-oriented, and organized
  • Driven problem-solver with a desire to improve business efficiency
  • Works well in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments and projects 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Acts with integrity


Preferred Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

  • MBA or similar advanced degree
  • 9+ years of relevant finance, accounting or audit experience in the energy industry
  • Risk Professional certifications
