Senior Director, Claims and Recovery

The Senior Director of Claims leads Delek Insured Claims Practice Including Occupational Injury, General Liability, Automobile Liability, Property, Environmental and All Other Claims Involving or with Insurance Coverage Implications.  This Is A Dynamic Position Involving Strategic Leadership And Management Of Claims With High Severity Potential. The Right Candidate Will Develop Delek's Claim Management Processes And Manage Delek's Internal And External Claims Managers In Handling, Investigation, Payment And Settlement Of Claims. He or She Will Engage and Direct Legal Counsel on Litigated Claims, Attend Mediations, Arbitrations, and Engage In Settlement Discussions within Level of Authority. The Senior Director of Claims Will Direct Subrogation and Recovery Processes. 


Management Responsibilities

Accountable for achieving strategic objectives, ensuring effective claims management for the organization and supervising, leading and/or directing key claims stakeholders. This person typically owns the process of identifying, measuring and managing insurable claims and analyzing insurance coverage problems and defining and/or overseeing the implementation of the risk solutions, including contractual, that help optimize operations.


Claims Management

  • Perform early case assessment and potential damages analysis.
  • Serves as Company’s official representative at mediations presenting the company’s position on pre litigated or litigated matters including responsibility of presenting financial settlement authority for the company.
  • Set and adjust reserves and ensure reserve adjustments are made on a timely basis. Advise stakeholders of changes in reserves and provide explanations of reserve changes to risk management and accounting stakeholders.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements controls and cost-effective approaches to minimize risks.
  • Provide daily direction to Third Party Claims Administrator (TPA) to initiate and resolve litigated cases. Direct and assist TPA in information gathering and investigations to resolve litigated claims.
  • Lead quarterly claim review meetings for litigated claims with TPA.
  • Initiate and coordinate legal holds and releases for attorney represented and litigated cases.
  • Negotiate acceptable solutions and compromises relating to issues involving internal departments and third parties.
  • Responsible for managing and setting strategy and direction for litigated claims.
  • Oversees responses to discovery and the preparation of witness and expert testimony.  Prepare and sign official discovery responses.
  • Manage, track, prepare and present reports summarizing liability litigation matters, including general liability lawsuits, subrogation matters, mediations and arbitrations.
  • Identify resource for and gather documents for review and analysis on litigation matters.
  • Conduct detailed research and analysis on complex legal issues.
  • Assign, manage, monitor and review the work of outside counsel
  • Acts as primary point of contact for business partners in resolving and addressing routine legal matters.


Requirements- Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities

  • Bachelor Degree and a minimum of 10 years’ experience preferred, with significant corporate experience related to the essential duties above; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience as an insurance claims adjuster, third party claims administrator, litigation manager or litigation support specialist, with extensive experience handling litigated general liability claims matters, evaluating reserves, and facilitating case resolution.
  • Advanced understanding of various legal processes.
  • Ability to assist in developing and implementing training to business clients.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret, professional journals, technical procedures, financial reports, legal documents, governmental regulations and case law.
  • Ability to write drafts of reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills are essential. In addition, the ability to effectively speak and present to business partners is required.
  • Strong project management leadership skills with the ability to implement execution strategies and methodologies appropriate for the various operational environments.
  • Ability to interface successfully with all levels of management and with outside legal professionals.
  • Proficiency in the following software: Word, Power Point, MS Outlook, Excel.
  • Juris Doctor Preferred.
