Job Summary:

The Process Safety & Operations Audit Specialist will be responsible for providing assurance regarding the design and effectiveness of Delek’s occupational and process safety (PSM) programs. The successful candidate will help ensure that safety focused assessments from the risk-based audit plan are executed efficiently and provide value-added feedback regarding compliance with Delek’s established standards and regulatory obligations. This professional will participate in and lead multiple projects in a team-based environment. The role requires the ability to effectively plan, execute, and report on safety focused assurance projects. The Safety and Operations Auditor will have direct interaction with senior management, business unit management, process owners, and shared services teams, including Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Legal. Additionally, this team member should have effective communication skills, a team-building attitude, and the ability to lead multiple projects at once.

 

This role will report to the Vice President, Internal Audit Services and can work remotely, Texas and Tennessee preferred, with 25-50% of travel required. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of applicable Delek US safety standards, related regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in safety focused operational risk assessments, as needed, to help focus audit efforts and develop the organization’s annual Safety Audit Plan.
  • Execute the annual Safety Audit including planning, risk identification, scope and audit program development, and drafting reports with value added recommendations.
  • Conduct audits with focus on assessing the adequacy of corporate and site level risk assessments and consistent compliance with established safety standards and regulatory requirements, while providing value added recommendations to improve site level operational excellence.
  • Participate as needed in cross-functional activities requiring specialized skill sets and expertise (e.g., steering committees, PSM audit teams, etc.)
  • Collaborate with other departments to share and implement best practices and enhance the overall safety culture of the organization.
  • Drive organizational accountability through robust monitoring and reporting of management action items.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with management, peers, site personnel, and other internal and external stakeholders.

 

Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Undergraduate Engineering degree (Chemical or Mechanical) preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or chemical industry, with focused safety (PSM) experience required; Assurance / Auditing experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with API standards that are relative to the refining industry and process safety (e.g., API 751, API 653, API 570, etc.)
  • Familiarity with process safety tools, systems, and programs such as Mechanical Integrity Programs, PHA, LOPA, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), MOC, Incident Investigation, Facility Siting, and Qualitative Risk Assessments (QRA).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to process safety, including EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP) and OSHA’s Process Safety Management Regulation.
  • Familiarity with Security Management Systems (CFATS, MTSA) is a plus.

  • Must possess the highest degree of integrity and ethical values.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective listening.
  • Extensive skill in planning, organizing, project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to execute assurance activities for areas not previously audited, including the identification of risks, sources of information, key stakeholders, etc.
  • A self-starter with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines and take ownership of projects. Able to work well within a self-directed, team-based environment.
  • Skill in negotiating issues and resolving problems with various stakeholders at all levels.
