We’re looking for a high-caliber leader to head up our Commercial Accounting team — a proven accounting expert who thrives in the fast-paced, ever-changing world of downstream oil and gas. About the Role:

The Director of Commercial Accounting oversees the accounting lifecycle for commercial operations in a complex downstream oil and gas environment, including crude and refined product transactions, exchanges, and inventory management. You will ensure financial accuracy and compliance while modernizing systems and processes that drive efficiency, transparency, and strategic insight.


What You’ll Do:

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a team across crude, refined products, inventory, and exchange accounting.

  • Build a high-performance culture focused on integrity, ownership, and growth.

  • Partner with Trading, Supply & Distribution, Logistics, and IT leaders.

Financial Oversight

  • Own the monthly close process for all commercial activities: journal entries, reconciliations, margin reporting.

  • Manage valuation of inventory across refineries, pipelines, terminals, and exchanges.

  • Ensure accurate treatment of buy/sell, tolling, and blending agreements.

Optimization & Innovation

  • Champion system upgrades, automation, and process enhancements.

  • Lead ERP and terminal/trading system initiatives (SAP, RightAngle, etc.).

  • Strengthen SOX controls and elevate audit readiness.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Provide executive-level reporting and commercial insights.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, and internal policies.

  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory needs.


Requirements:

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)

  • CPA certification (required)

  • Master’s preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years in accounting, with at least 3–5 years in leadership

  • Must have downstream oil & gas accounting experience OR Big 4 Senior Manager experience with CPA

  • ERP and trading systems (SAP, RightAngle, etc.) are highly preferred
