Job Description
The Cathodic Protection Technician will support DKL Operations and Maintenance and be responsible for management and implementation of the Corrosion Control Program to all midstream facilities including but not limited to pipelines, storage tanks, terminals, piping, and pressure vessels. Primary focus will be in support of the Western Region Assets located near and around Big Spring, TX. The Cathodic Protection Technician falls within the Asset Integrity Management Team and will support other staff including corrosion control, pipeline integrity, facility integrity and tank integrity.
General
- Adhere to Delek and Industry safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with 49CFR195 & T.A.C. regarding corrosion control.
- Supervise contracted corrosion control activities.
External Corrosion Control
- Monitor CP rectifiers and/bonds and verify adequate current & voltage.
- Perform annual CP survey on assigned systems.
- Perform maintenance on CP equipment such as test leads, replace rectifier parts, etc.
- Perform maintenance on personal equipment such as half cells, wire spools, etc.
- Field troubleshoot CP problems such as low pipe-to-soil potentials, rectifier malfunctions, etc.
- Recommend preventative and mitigative actions for pipeline and terminal systems.
- Participate on capital project teams as the corrosion mitigation representative as directed.
- Update peers and upper management on projects associated with the team.
- Provide feedback on new technologies and software as employed in the field.
- Rectifier trouble shooting and repair, knowledge of A/C connections and testing.
- Perform atmospheric corrosion surveys along with span and exposure surveys.
- Assist on pipeline excavations including visual inspection and testing of pipe and environment (i.e. pipe to soil potentials, soil Ph, etc.)
Internal Corrosion Control
- Perform serial dilution testing of water samples.
- Extract and replace coupons for internal corrosion monitoring.
- Perform rate adjustments and maintenance on injection pumps.
- Oversee and install new equipment for internal corrosion monitoring/protection.
- Perform ER probe reads.
- Verify inventory and deliveries of chemicals.
- Sample collection and inspection of pipe failure cutouts.
- Maintain any internal corrosion equipment (coupon holders, bleeders, check valves on injection lines, etc.

REQUIRED Qualifications
Minimum Education, Skills & Experience
- NACE / AAMP Cathodic Protection Tester (CP Level 1) Certification
- Minimum of 1-year of experience in an oil & gas technical maintenance role, or 3 years’ experience in an oil & gas technical maintenance role.
- Experience with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic / electrical equipment
- Understanding of pipelines and DOT/PHMSA regulations 49CFR195 and 49CFR192.
- Understanding of NACE / AAMP standards
- Knowledge in corrosion mitigation techniques
- Willing to attend and participate industry-sponsored conferences, seminars, training, and
- Up to 25% overnight travel to company locations and facilities for typical work, meetings, training, special projects, emergency planning, or information gathering will be required.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to submit to DOT random drug & alcohol screening.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in STEM field
- Experience working with large quantities of data and keeping it organized.
- NACE / AAMP Cathodic Protection Technician Certification (CP Level 2)
- Understanding of damage mechanisms associated with piping and tanks.
- Prior experience working out in the field and an understanding of field activities for oil and gas corrosion mitigation operations.
- Previous experience maintaining cathodic protection systems, coatings and internal corrosion control on pipelines and above-ground storage tanks.
