Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Role Summary

The Chemist I is a position in the Control Laboratory department of Lion Oil Company.  This role will test refinery products throughout the refining process to ensure quality and regulatory standards as met.  The Chemist I will provide assistance in problem solving to all other departments of the refinery. 

 

Job Accountabilities

  • Maintain safe, clean and orderly working environment by complying with safety and laboratory procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Provide analytical support for refinery operations, with scheduled and requested analysis, to maintain proper quality of unit products
  • Provide analytical support for Process Engineering problem solving.
  • Provide analytical support for Supply and Distribution to control raw materials and ensure quality of finished products, including retaining samples for future analysis verification
  • Run the necessary standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the laboratory equipment
  • Maintain required inventory levels of supplies.
  • Perform assigned Emergency Response Team duties
  • Communicate accurate results to proper refinery departments
  • Conduct oneself in a professional, approachable manner
  • Promote teamwork in plant wide problem resolution
  • To work on improving existing methods or creating new ones to better meet the needs of the refinery
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager or Lab Supervisor.
  • Works effectively without supervision
  • Communicates well with employees from all areas of the facility
  • Develop and maintain analytic and statistical reports
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or other related science degree
  • Comprehensive knowledge of of
  • Demonstrated safety training in an industrial environment
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven documentation and writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good housekeeping skills
  • Knowledge of refinery products and specifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Three (3) years knowledge of refinery laboratory testing procedures
  • Three (3) years of  laboratory operations experience
  • OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification
