The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.



The Training Coordinator manages the daily activities of the Training Department in the administration of all internal and external training that takes place for the Refinery.  This role provides expert consultation, analysis, facilitation, research and project management in all areas related to the education, training and development of employees in the Refinery.



•             Develop education, training and development model and determine the education, training and development needs that link directly to organizational business goals and objectives.

•             Collaborate with Management both internal and corporate to develop guiding principles, strategies and plans; conduct comprehensive needs assessments; determine education, training and development priorities based on assessed needs, business impact and available resources.

•             Coordinate existing training programs and provide consultation to Management for development of job-specific and department-specific training.

•             Plan, schedule, and document training for the Tyler Refinery.

•             Design, conduct and/or broker the delivery of training programs from a variety of resources whose delivery methods include classroom and online training

•             Research, evaluate and select outside consultants and trainers to meet training needs as appropriate.

•             Design, support, and manage the development of online electronic training media (Procedures, Policies, Guidelines, Job-Aids and CBTs)

•             Train Subject-Matter-Experts on “How to Train” and “How to Develop Procedures”.

•             Design, support, and manage the oversight of the Corporate Learning Management System a facility level to support the individual and unique needs of each department within the facility.

•             Design, develop, support and train others on internally development databases and spreadsheets used to manage and measure training activities.

•             Develop Training Budget and monitor the administrative framework required to support education, training, and development programs and initiatives both from the Training Dept. and from other departments with training budgets.

•             Assist in formulation of policies, procedures and schedules to support education and training operations and initiatives.

•             Develop methods, procedures and systems to support learning initiatives and records maintenance; evaluate and measure the effectiveness of training and development programs.

•             Coach Management and employees with regard to career development strategies and techniques.

•             Support HR Staffing Department with education metrics, job task analyses, and other collected training data as needed to further their business requirement

•             Conduct audits, research, collect data and write reports to support the timeliness, accuracy and quality of business decisions as they impact and are impacted by the Training Dept.

•             Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein in support of the business goals of both Tyler Refinery and the Training Dept.




Minimum Required Education: 

•             Associate’s degree and three (3) years in a training, organizational development or Human Resource role


Minimum Required Experience: 

•             Three (3) years of experience managing the functions of planning training, scheduling, tracking, evaluation and reporting

•             Three (3) years of experience conducting gap analysis and proposing solutions for countermeasures

•             Three (3) years of experience in curriculum design and development writing of objective based training guides and the creation of evaluation tools

•             Established communications with plant leadership in an influential role

•             Leadership skills to lead and manage training department personnel

•             Competent in technology utilized in training industry

•             Ability to recommend learning & development interventions after analysis of problem and consideration of alternative solutions

•             Ability to develop training curriculum in a refining/manufacturing environment

•             Process thinking and ability to develop standard work and lead in a continuous improvement environment

•             Demonstrated ability to organize group training and teambuilding activities

•             Communicates effectively in visual, oral and written form utilizing required technologies

•             Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal, group process and consulting behaviors

•             Specialized training knowledge including knowledge of training technology and equipment operations

•             Understanding of adult learning theory and how to apply in a 24/7 operating environment

•             Ability to design and implement systems to track training and the associated costs

•             Must stay current on industry trends in Learning & Development to meet the needs of cross-generational associates learning preferences

•             Ability to proficiently utilize Microsoft Office Suite office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

•             Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, integrity and the highest degree of confidentiality




Desirable/Preferred Education: 

•             Bachelor’s degree in HR or other related field and experience in refinery or petro-chemical industry


Desired/Preferred Experience: 

•             Five years of experience in a training role

•             Expert User of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access or Visio
