Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Role Summary

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for the overall field construction effort.  This role coordinates the construction activities with the contractors and plant.  The construction superintendent leads and monitors project safety efforts, monitors construction progress (schedule and cost), and ensures that the final facilities meet the project design requirements.  This role reports to the Senior Project Director.

 

Job Accountabilities

  • Participate in project schedule development with emphasis on impact of the schedule on construction activities and efficiency
  • Participate in and manage the contractor’s Constructability effort
  • Review and approve key designs documents impacting construction including plot plans, constructability sketches, etc.
  • Approve all heavy lift plans
  • Participate in design reviews in key areas impacting construction and constructability
  • Coordinate communications with plant contacts to assure proper interpretation of plant requirements that impact the project
  • Manage the field logistics including security, safety and coordination with the plant contacts
  • Review the construction portion of the project estimate
  • Arrange for and manage field preparations for Contractor mobilization including laydown, buildings, utilities, and security
  • Establishes base line data procedures, establishes inspection records
  • Assists in development of turnover sequencing/hydrotesting sequencing
  • Assists contractor with development of final equipment head-up and any other special procedures (i.e. metal protection coating application and inspection; pneumatic testing, etc.)
  • Approve field purchase orders and time sheets
  • Manages the field quality effort including hiring and supervision of project QA inspectors
  • Manage the system completion and turnover systems in conjunction with the Lead Operations Representative
  • Consulted on field staffing decisions
  • Interface with the EPC construction manager
  • Coordinate interfaces with the plant contacts in conjunction with the Operations
  • Other duties as assigned

     

    Required Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of proven experience in general contracting and/or construction management.
  • knowledge and experience in managing complex construction projects from project initial steps through start-up/commissioning/closeout
  • A strong knowledge and experience of construction safe work practices
  • Understanding of and ability to apply basic construction principles
  • Ability to pre-plan and coordinate several projects in regards to material contracts, manpower, equipment, safety and subcontractors
  • Thorough understanding of schedules, project budgets, submittals, change orders, and job costing
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and complete multiple tasks within project deadlines
  • Proven analytical problem solving skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of third-party provider contract negotiations and construction quality standards
  • Experienced in managing project budgeting, funding processes and procedures
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with proven ability in P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Strong communication skills, in both oral and written forms, with all levels of the organization, clients, customers and vendors
  • Must pass drug test and background check
  • Must be Legally Authorized­ to Work in the United States

 

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering, Technical or Business discipline
  • Ten (10) years of documented, progressive experience in construction project management
  • Previous experience working in refining or petro-chemical industry
  • Construction Management Association of America CCM or Engineering PE certification
  • Demonstrated experience of multi-discipline construction management
  • Working experience of Six Sigma
