Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Position Summary

The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for supporting the Risk and Legal Departments’ litigated and pre-litigated matters.  We are looking for a skilled Litigation Paralegal to be the backbone of our Litigation Management team. The successful candidate will be highly poised, demonstrate a strong attention to detail, and be able to provide assistance during all phases of the litigation process.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the Litigation Attorney and Risk Manager in handling litigated and pre-litigated matters.
  • Own the e-discovery, litigation-hold process, and the discovery request system, including communication with business unit representatives to gather documents, Bates stamping, and overall organization and maintenance of the enterprise document production.
  • Envision, create and maintain Delek’s new centralized repository of document production.
  • Serve as the owner of Delek’s discovery, including subpoena for documents, and serve as the Risk and Legal Departments primary contact for discovery requests.
  • Own all Third Party Recovery Processes including identification of recovery opportunities, preparation of tender packages, and follow-up on and reporting on recoveries until final settlement.
  • Support Litigation Attorney and/or Outside Counsel in witness preparation, deposition preparation, research, and preparing and organizing exhibits.
  • Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes; organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices.
  • Liaise between Outside Counsel, Risk Management, Third Party Administrator and In-House Legal teams and internal/external third parties.
  • Manage, track, prepare and present report summarizing liability litigation matters and assigned pre-litigation matters including general liability suits, subrogation matters, mediations and arbitrations.
  • Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics etc.)
  • Perform routine office duties, such as photocopying and scanning documents, and helping prepare them for court filings.
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy litigation and Assigned Pre-Litigation files, reviewing and preparing material for storage or disposal once a case has closed.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic self-starter looking to meaningfully contribute to a growing organization 
  • Associates degree
  • 2+ years proven work experience as a civil litigation legal assistant or litigation paralegal or other relevant role.
  • Team player adept at collaborating effectively with colleagues in non-legal roles (accounting, tax, human resources and risk management).
  • Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices etc.
  • Highly organized with ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills; along with attention to detail.
  • Extensive computer and database expertise including Matter Management Systems, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • High degree of poise and professionalism, including the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize effectively and be flexible

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Zovy, or equivalent, e-discovery experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • National Federation of Paralegal Association Certification in one or more areas: Discovery, E-Discovery, Personal Injury, Advanced Tort Law, or Advanced Litigation
  • Completion of an ABA approved paralegal education program
