Delek US Holdings, Inc. is a diversified downstream energy company with assets in petroleum refining, logistics, renewable fuels and convenience store retailing.  The refining assets consist of refineries operated in Tyler and Big Spring, Texas, El Dorado, Arkansas and Krotz Springs, Louisiana with a combined nameplate crude throughput capacity of 302,000 barrels per day.

The logistics operations primarily consist of Delek Logistics Partners, LP.  Delek US Holdings, Inc.and its affiliates own approximately 63% (including the 2 percent general partner interest) of Delek Logistics Partners, LP.  Delek Logistics Partners, LP (NYSE:DKL) is a growth-oriented master limited partnership focused on owning and operating midstream energy infrastructure assets.

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Role Summary

Lead Process Development Engineer reports to the VP of Engineering and Capital Projects and is responsible for development of initiatives or project concepts/ideas, resulting in a credible scope to be executed or killing the idea.

This role is a liaison between Economic/Planning and Site Leadership, and must collaborate on project or initiative development.  This role requires successful and effective collaboration with various groups within the company and external resources.

 

Job Accountabilities

  • This role has 3 key responsibilities which establish and sustain execution excellence:
    • Collaborate with various groups driving alignment company value and justification
    • Based on justification, seek the best solution through continued collaboration and by leveraging company and external expertise for process development
    • Work with Director of Project Execution – Refining to ensure any proposed process concepts or ideas are vetted or assessed for credibility and viability for constructability, schedule, cost, operability, and similar
  • Based on portfolio identified priorities or regulatory needs, focus on key projects or initiatives in support of company growth, unit debottlenecks, and compliance
  • Will use project development best practices such as seeking alignment, promoting transparent and proactive communications, effective interfaces are engaged for good decision making on early concepts, and process engineering will deliver per expectations and objectives
  • Responsible to ensure projects and capital spend in area of responsibility deliver optimal results and value to the BU and Delek, and drive project excellence by:
    • Ensuring appropriate front end efforts are completed leveraging capital governance and project best practices and principles:
    • Lead by example, sharing clarity around “what good looks like”
    • Effective decision making (right time, right decision makers), specifically champion projects being stopped or recycled when required
    • Risk management
    • Challenging the project boundaries, technology, and scope
    • Stopping projects which are proven to lack value to Delek, and document why the project was stopped
    • Learning from mistakes and improving behavior, skillsets, and knowledge ensuring continual improvement is driving sustainability
    • Challenges the inputs and requests striving for best balance between “over engineering early ideas” and pushing too hard of quick decision making.
  • Reporting
    • Ensure OpEx budgets are confirmed for any development work completed
    • Monitor OpEx metrics and reporting as compared to identified budget
    • Ensure budget, spend plan, and level of effort is aligned with leadership expectations
  • Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) Process
    • Support Director of Project Execution establish funding request content which is complete and accurate, and engage early for questions and to provide direction.  Items within the AFE process and associated funding request, include:
      • Scope clarity, technical aspects, with aligned costs and schedule
      • Relevant description and justification
      • Coordinate with Director of Metrics and Reporting, budgeted or unbudgeted
      • Clearly defined risks, issues, or concerns and mitigation
      • Support Director of Project Execution provide appropriate project plans (execution, contracting strategy, resources/staffing, etc) with associated decision-making.  This information to be included in request.
  • Communication and interface

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering or similar technical field
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in process development on large capital projects, with strong preference for refining technologies.
  • Knowledge of refinery economics.
  • Solid knowledge of process engineering, such as responsibility for multiple process units in support and optimization roles, and/or project feasibility development, and/or process design.
  • Experience with and passion for mentoring and coaching of all levels, and presenting to and collaborating with executive management and board of directors
  • Ability to work cross functionally all experience levels, and adapt quickly to changing priorities and assignments, and strong skills with leadership, including coaching and supervision to gain alignment, and communication and interface management
  • Proficient with process simulation software (HYSYS preferred)
  • Ability to communicate ideas and solutions in simple language (business jargon not needed) to your team, and executives, contractors, and regulatory officials
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with strong ownership
