Job Summary:

Delek US Holdings is seeking a PSM Engineer, Process Safety Management. The ideal candidate will be a PSM subject matter expert, with direct PHA/LOPA facilitation experience, who thrives in a collaborative, open, team environment and is driven by the opportunity to make an impact.  This position will be part of the corporate PSM team with direct responsibility for the following:

  • Maintaining the 5-year PHA revalidation schedule, facilitating PHA and LOPA studies, completing management reviews, writing PHA Reports, and assuring effective and timely closure of PHA /LOPA recommendations.
  • Facilitating project PHAs
  • Supporting capital project PHAs



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to schedule, coordinate, document and lead PHA/LOPA revalidations maintaining the 5-year window required for revalidation of each study
  • Lead and/or coordinate completion of project PHAs
  • Stays current with emerging issues related to Process Safety Management
  • Corrective action item verification for Process Safety related events
  • Write and implement effective procedures that support process safety
  • Develop, implement, and support the Company’s process safety requirements
  • Support implementation of safety management programs, standards, management systems and compliance assurance to ensure operational excellence and sustainability in the organization
  • Provide hands on support to operational sites; coordinate with unit Process Compliance Coordinators to achieve uniformity in approach and compliance
  • Serving as a mentor for technical and hourly employees to make process safety an everyday mission for continuous improvement in daily operations
  • Assisting leadership with the development of short and long-term process safety objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks
  • Participate on incident investigation teams for major/significant incidents
  • Conduct periodic reviews and participate in compliance audits




  • B.S. in a technical field (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • 5 to 10 years of PSM and/or process engineering experience
  • 5 years PHA experience, including experience leading facility PHA and LOPA studies
  • Petroleum refining or chemical industry experience preferred
  • Understanding of Level of Protection Analysis (LOPA), including but not limited to Safety Instrumented Systems, Independent Protection Layers, Instrumented Safety Function, Safety Integrity Level, and Risk Reduction Factors
  • Understand of the concept of Inherently Safer Design
  • Understanding of facility siting, including siting of temporary buildings and structures
  • Practical experience in use of PHA software (PHA Works, PHA Pro, etc.)
  • Ability to recognize hazards associated with chemical processes and equipment
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and other process safety information
  • Ability to read and understand federal, state and local requirements associated with equipment design and integrity
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Organizational skills
  • Good verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to perform multiple functions and tasks simultaneous
  • Good administrative skills; development and completion of checklists, filing and thorough documentation of tasks performed
