Database Administrator II

The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Database Administrator level II or higher to be the primary DBA involved in the design of a new Azure environment and to support a large diverse group of Microsoft SQL Servers. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a DBA, and strong Azure skills, and the ability to architect an Azure environment from the ground up, prior experience with refinery applications a plus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements Azure databases in the cloud.
  • Defines Azure storage requirements with an emphasis on performance and costs.
  • Defines and implements Azure database security that meets Delek’s strict secure guidelines as defined by PCI and SOX.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and Communicate clearly with the business. 
  • Make weekly progress reports with an emphasis on company goals and time lines.

Secondary Duties

  • Develops, implements, administers, and maintains procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company databases.
  • Monitors a large group of SQL servers for performance, security, stability, and recovery.
  • Researches, reviews, and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing database architecture.
  • Resolves database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Collaborates with software team in designing, planning and implementing relational and non-relational data-driven features and functionality based on project requirements.
  • Reviews and analyzes SQL scripts, procedure, and functions for performance and safety for QA.   
  • Experience designing complex SQL procedures, scripts, and functions.

Skills Required:

  • Experience implementing Azure databases or similar cloud based technologies.
  • Installation and setup of SQL server version 2008 to 2019 with a solid understanding of key install options.
  • Installation and setup of SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Installation and setup of SQL Server Integration Services.
  • Configuring SQL Transparent Data Encryption.
  • Configuring Filestream.
  • Experience implementing and setting up database HA Clusters.
  • Understands the main principles behind how Microsoft SQL Server functions, with a good understanding of SQL server system tables, views, and DMV’s
  • Familiar with ITIL processes and especially the SLA. 
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience creating tables, views, stored procedures, T-SQL, dynamic SQL, indexes, and data constraints
  • Performance tuning and optimizing databases
  • Experience designing SSIS packages.
  • Experience designing SQL Server reports.
  • Good understanding of data transfer protocols including FTP, SFTP, HTTP

Experience with the following technologies a plus:

Right Angle, SAP, Service Now, GoAnywhere MFT, Refinery Applications

Education/Certification any of the following is a plus.

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent work experience. 
  • Microsoft Database Certifications: MCAAA, MCASWS, MCDBA

Travel Requirements: Low, 2 to 3 weeks per year.
